THIRD ANNUAL POW! WOW! LONG BEACH
POW! WOW! LONG BEACH RETURNS
JULY 16-22, 2017
In Long Beach, POW! WOW! is a week long event that brings " art and culture to public spaces by beautifying the city while cultivating community pride".
This is a live art exhibition that features internationally renowned artists that use Long Beach buildings as their canvas to create murals. Throughout the week, you can go view their process in person as the giant murals come to life. You can find each mural with the map below.
Check all of them out here.
Since it's inception in Hawaii, POW! WOW! has become a global network of artists that organize gallery shows, lecture series, create creative community spaces, throw concerts, and live art installations across the globe. This event is currently expanding to cities and countries such as Taiwan, Israel, Singapore, Jamaica, Washington D.C., Guam, New Zealand, Germany and many more.
POW! – It’s the impact that art has on a person.
WOW! – It’s reaction that art has on a viewer.
Together they form POW! WOW!, which is a Native American term that describes a gathering that celebrates culture, music and art.
On POW! WOW!'s official site they state that this event is inspired by Native American Pow Wows. Native American people use pow wow's as a way to meet, dance, sing, renewing old friendships and making new ones.

In 2015, POW! WOW! was introduced to the city of Long Beach for the first time. We thought it was the coolest thing to have a city actually permit artist to paint all over the buildings. We filmed a video featuring the murals and an exhibit at the Long Beach Museum of Art, you can watch it below.
We're excited to check out this years murals! Are you checking out POW! WOW! ?
